Cowork is Claude Code's agentic capabilities made accessible for everyone, allowing users to work with Claude in a more approachable form for non-coding tasks. It turns Claude into a digital coworker that can handle file management and document creation tasks autonomously.
Cowork gives Claude access to folders on your computer, enabling it to read, edit, or create files within those folders. It can re-organize downloads by sorting and renaming files, create spreadsheets from screenshots, or produce report drafts from scattered notes. Claude can use existing connectors that link to external information and has access to skills that improve its ability to create documents, presentations, and other files.
Cowork operates with more agency than regular conversations, allowing Claude to make plans and steadily complete tasks while keeping users informed. When paired with Claude in Chrome, it can complete tasks requiring browser access. Users can queue up tasks and let Claude work through them in parallel rather than waiting for completion before offering feedback.
The product is designed to make using Claude for new work simple by eliminating the need to manually provide context or convert outputs into the right format. It feels less like back-and-forth conversation and more like leaving messages for a coworker who handles tasks independently.
Cowork is available as a research preview for Claude Max subscribers on the macOS app, with plans to add cross-device sync and bring it to Windows.
